Stawell Secondary College is entering the final stage of its major building program, with students expected back in the refurbished heritage building by mid to late March.

Assistant principal Dean Greenhalgh said the historic building had now been fully renovated internally.

“The heritage building has been completely renovated inside to include seven classrooms, a wellbeing space and a staff office,” Mr Greenhalgh said.

Students will also have direct access from the building onto newly constructed decks on the south and east sides — an addition designed to expand flexible learning space while retaining the character of the original structure.

Significant landscaping works are one of the final touches that will elevate the overall presentation of the heritage building and newer sections of the campus.

“There is currently landscaping happening which will tie all the new sections into the old,” Mr Greenhalgh said.

The refurbishment forms part of Stage 2 of the college’s Upgrade and Modernisation program, a state-funded redevelopment valued at more than $12 million. The broader stage has included construction of a new administration uilding and staff room, upgrades to the library, art and music spaces, and campus-wide landscaping improvements. Stage 2 builds on works completed in 2020, when new science and home economics facilities were delivered and outdated buildings removed under a master plan developed with the school.

Mr Greenhalgh said only final internal touches remain before the program concludes.

“Over the Term 1 holidays, the art rooms will have new flooring and a fresh paint ready for the start of Term 2,” he said.

“This will then complete the current building works.”
